Rest Day at Grey

Sunday February 9, 2020

Torres del Paine NP, Chile

Rest day at Grey.

We scheduled in a rest day today.  It was nice to laze about and do not much of anything.  The day was a bit cloudier and cooler than we were used to, though.  After breakfast I had to use the internet for a bit.  I had inadvertently sent the wrong InReach message a few days ago - "Something has gone sideways...."  Oops!  So I had to let people know that everything was indeed fine.  While the internet is not widely available on the trek, there is a way to get on it in most of the camps.  Then I joined Jill & Barb for a little exploring down to the black sand beach and out to the rocky point that got us a bit closer to the icebergs and the end of the glacier.  The rock was lovely to scramble on and it was interesting to see how it had been scoured by the glacier in the not-too-distant past.  We eventually made our way back to the refugio and joined some of the others for lunch.

Then a nap followed by tea and reading on the deck.  All in all, quite a strenuous day!

The weather is still holding for now.  But - the forecast is starting to deteriorate.  More cloud cover and more wind, although the rain isn't forecast to arrive in any quantity until we're done.  Maybe we'll scrape by..................
