Another Travel Day

Wednesday February 26, 2020

Puerto Varas to Santiago, Chile.

We have been soooo lucky with the weather on this trip.  Rain overnight, with a bit of drizzle and overcast skies this morning; must be a travel day!

Breakfast and then a quick trip downtown to Scotiabank (!) to get some more cash.  Back to the hostel for our 11:15 pickup by the airport shuttle..... which didn't arrive.  In all the travelling that we've done on this trip that's the first thing that hasn't gone like clockwork.  It all worked out in the end, though, and as I write this we're on a plane to Santiago.

Everything went smoothly.  Good flight.  We landed ahead of schedule.  Lucas (Barb's renter's sister's boyfriend) was there to meet us and deliver us to our hostel.  We had heard about bad experiences with local taxi drivers so Barb and her renter were kind enough to set this up for us.  It's a nice hostel in a good part of town.  Really nice owners, originally from Venezuela.  Barb had been here since earlier in the day so it was good to be re-united with her and to hear about her most excellent Antarctic adventure.

So far I really like what I've seen of Santiago.  We are in the neighbourhood of Providencia.  It is bustling and fairly modern.  There doesn't appear to be much evidence of recent protests and violence.  We're back to some real summer weather here.  It's been over 30C today and still close to that as we made our way home from dinner.

Tomorrow Lucas is taking us to Cajon de Maipo.  Leaving at 7am.............
